Rainhill 1st vs Alder 1st: Already relegated Alder elected to bat and got off to a decent start. With Rainhill needing 25 points for a chance of promotion the pressure was evident.

As Alder had nothing to lose, they played with a freedom that was to be their downfall. Qureshi 4 for 36, Dale 3 for 36 and Williams 3 for 17 kept the visitors to 120 all out off 44. Only Singh (42) showing any patience.

Rotheram (62no) led by example and was supported by Ford (34). Alhough Rainhill had a late collapse, they passed the total in 30 overs losing 8 wickets. Unfortunately the 25 points gained didn’t gain promotion.

Thanks to the village butcher for sponsoring the match. Birkenhead St. Mary’s 2nd vs Rainhill 2nd: With only a win required to gain promotion, Rainhill inserted the home team on the ‘result wicket’.

The line and length from P. Morris was destructive. His accurate seam bowling was supported by Gannon (who finished with the league’s most wickets). Only Fitzmaurice (13) got into double figures as Morris’s 6 wickets for 4 runs came from 11 overs and Gannon 4 for 20 from 10 overs ended Birkenhead's misery for 26 runs in 21 overs.

Rainhill passed the target in 8 overs only losing 1 wicket in the process and gained promotion to division 1.
