Newton le Willows 1st XI V Orrell Red Triangle 1st XI.
Newton lost their second successive game on Saturday but unlike the previous week when they scored over 200 runs this latest setback was a result of a most inept batting performance.
Asked to bat first Newton did so for 32 overs but they found run scoring very difficult with Wilkie and Liam Jenkins both scoring 16 to be top scorers in a final total of just 71 runs.
Inevitably this total was to prove no obstacle to the visitors and they reached their target in 19 overs. This win took the visitors to 3rd place in the league whilst Newton dropped to fifth.
Bootle 2nd XI v Newton le Willows 2nd XI. Bootle won the toss and elected to bat first and had little trouble in reaching 175 for 4 in 42 overs before closing their innings. For Newton Warburton with 2 for 47 off 15 overs was the most successful bowler.
In reply Newton seemed well placed on 96 for 3 at one stage with skipper Andy Long batting superbly but then they lost six wickets whilst adding just 30 more runs and although 30 more runs were added for the last wicket in a valiant attempt to win the game Long was eventually last man out for 97 and his side lost the game by 14 runs and remain rooted at the bottom of the Premier League Table
