RAINFORD were foiled by the rain at New Brighton after posting an impressive 229 for 4 declared.

This season’s overseas player, Australian Comrey Edgeworth, made an immediate impact with an unbeaten 101, sharing a 146 run second wicket partnership with Paul Farrar (98).

The Wirral outfit lost three wickets with only 49 on the board when the rain arrived. Reece Kelly took 2 for 17, with Dan Houghton picking up the other wicket.

The 2nd X1 notched their first win with an excellent performance against Liverpool after the visitors had declared on 175 for 8. Andrew Harrison did the damage for Rainford taking 7 for 47.

The Rainford reply was led by young Dan Harrison (60) supported by his skipper Mark Brook (40) before the rest of the batting order saw them home by three wickets.
