Rainford put in another impressive performance last Saturday in the Liverpool Gin Liverpool Competition Division 1 with a 172 run win over Prestatyn.

Electing to bat at the Jubilee Recreation Ground, openers Matt Bailey and Paul Farrar proceeded to produce their third century opening partnership of the season before Bailey was stumped for a patient 28. Farrar departed soon after, caught behind, for 85, runs which now place him as the Division’s leading run scorer. Joe Noctor then returned to form with an excellent 101 not out including four sixes and together with 28 not out from Finlo Smith, took the total to an imposing 259 for 2 declared.

The rain which arrived midway through the second half proved the main obstacle to Rainford’s hopes but thankfully it stopped sufficiently to allow John Dotter’s men to finish the job in clinical fashion. The skipper bagged 4 for 14 and the consistent Andy Davies matched him with 4 for 31.

This week (Wednesday evening) sees Rainford U13 at home in the Southport and District Cup Final v Southport and Birkdale.
