THE 2016 cricket season has seen mixed fortunes for our local cricket teams with Sutton finishing in 36th place in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition and now dropping into the Southport and District League only to be replaced in the Liverpool Competition by Prescot and Odyssey, who gain promotion after winning the Southport League title. Haydock finished 10th in the Southport League.
Elsewhere, Rainhill maintain their place in the top flight, finishing 8th in the Liverpool competition ECB Premier Division with Mohammed Quereshi’s 79 wickets making him the Division’s leading wicket taker. Rainford struggled throughout the summer eventually finishing 11th and will play in Division 1 in 2017.
Newton Le Willows, always there and there abouts in Division 1, can be satisfied with their 6th place in Division 1 and a good effort from St Helens Town in Division 2 only saw them falter on the very last day to miss promotion and finish 3rd.
