RAINFORD’S cricketers maintained their second place position in Liverpool Competition Division 1 with a comprehensive five wicket win at Sefton Park.

After inviting the hosts to bat, John Dotters (5 for 30) and Steven Cline (4 for 21) combined to dismiss them for 102.

Rainford’s reply faltered early on losing two wickets with 26 on the board, before Saad Khan (40) and Mark Brook (30) took command to put Rainford in reach of their total which they did despite losing three more wickets in scoring the remaining ten runs.

Meanwhile Rainford’s second eleven fought out a draw with Rainhill after posting 181, Ollie Lawrenson top scoring with 38.

Connolly (32) then McKeown (50) scored quickly but the accuracy of Murgatroyd (4 for 59) cut short the chase and Rainhill finished on 161 for 7 from 38 overs. The thirds game at Highfield was cut short by heavy rain.
