St Helens Town secured promotion to Division 1 of the Liverpool and District cricket competition with wicket win over Caldy.

Caldy won the toss and chose to bat and scored runs quickly as they found themselves 44-2 from just 10 overs.

Caldy's overseas player Brynley Richards continued the attack on Town's bowling before eventually being dismissed for 66 off the bowling of the ever reliable James Davies who finished with figures of 5-61.

Caldy reached 184 all out. St Helens started their reply poorly losing Donnelly for just 2 and Kenny for 5 before a partnership of 74 between Gaskell and Woods, Gaskell falling just 3 runs short of his 50 to the bowling of Richards with the score on 89-3.

Woods and Knowles then took the attack to the Caldy bowling putting on a partnership of 66 in just 8 overs.

Knowles fell for 39 from just 28 balls as Town moved within touching distance of the victory.

Woods was dismissed for 64 from 50 balls with the home side needing just 20 to win, Davies and Fisher saw the side home as Town reached the target of 185 in just 35 overs, gaining the points needed for promotion to division 1.
