St Helens Town remain second in the league and in the hunt for promotion to the Liverpool competition 1st division with a 32 run victory over local rivals Sutton.
Having won the toss the visitors invited Town to bat first on what looked like a slow and difficult pitch to bat on and made a great start reducing town to 10-4, Ray Foster and Craig Campbell doing the early damage.
Danny Roberts and Ian Knowles lead the fight back with a counter attacking partnership of 51 before Roberts fell for 25. Knowles continued to attack as partners fell at regular intervals before he eventually fell for 57 with Town still in trouble at 95-7.
The long St. Helens Town batting line up came to fruition as the tail wagged with number 9 Paul Meadows scoring 20 and number 11 Murgatroyd scoring 12 off just 4 balls as Town where 131 all out. In reply Town made the perfect start with Murgatroyd taking 2 wickets in 2 balls as Sutton where left 2-2 after 2 overs. A mini partnership of 30 between Greener and Onion gave the visitors hope before Davies picked up both their scalps in the space of 2 overs.
From that point on it was all Town as they continued to pick up regular wickets which saw Sutton reduced to 76-7, a brief counter attacking knock from Luke Hughes wasn't enough for the away side as they where eventually bowled out for just 99. Davies and Murgatroyd with 3 wickets apiece.
St Helens Town are now 46 points clear of 3rd placed side Old Xaverians and look favourites to clinch a promotion place.
