RAINFORD continued their winning ways last Saturday to go back on top of the Med Imaging Liverpool Competition Division 1, by just one point over close pursuers Highfield and Formby.

They did so after a seven wicket win over Sefton Park, a result that looked unlikely after the first hour’s play. Sefton’s openers had reached 72 without loss before skipper Andy Davies turned to an all spin attack to change the game. Thereafter ten wickets fell for 93 runs with Davies leading the way with 5 for 41 and John Dotters continuing his excellent current form with 5 for 48 to dismiss the visitors for 165.

The Rainford response was not an easy one, losing five wickets for 57 before Daron Cruickshank and Ravi Mistry contributed 29 runs apiece. This set up Dotters (40 not out) and John R Williams to repeat their match finishing performance the previous week by calmly adding the 32 runs needed to secure the win.

The second X1 were involved in an unsatisfactory rain affected affair at Lytham where after posting 203 for 7 the game became interrupted to leave Lytham on 73 for 4 at stumps. Tom Brimelow (67) and Matt Campbell (63 not out) with Phil Curran grabbing 3 for 5 were Rainford’s top performers.

On Sunday the 3rd X1 lost to Highfield.
