RAINFORD enjoyed a successful weekend, with wins for all three teams placing them in the top half of their respective league tables.

The first XI remain third in Med Imaging Liverpool Competition Division One after a five-wicket win at home to Northop Hall.

The visitors were soon in trouble, losing five wickets for just 16 runs before a staunch rearguard action saw them post a total of 160.

Daron Cruickshank (6 for 27) bagged four of the first five, with Stephen Birkett claiming the other. Then John Dotters took 3 for 62 as the visitors were bowled out.

Mark Brook (36) and Dave Tully (20) took Rainford towards the total when, after the fall of a few wickets, in-form Joe Noctor made sure that there were no further alarms with 61 not out. The second XI recorded a nine-wicket win at Sutton to maintain their promotion challenge, bowling the hosts out for 79. Chris Spencer took 4 for 32, with Stephen Cline and Andy Harrison two each.

Rainford’ pursuit in the second half was led by Stuart Benzies (48 not out). The Sheffield based opening batsman finished the game in fine style with a big six.

On Sunday the thirds achieved a seven-wicket victory over St Helens Town. Chris Bell led the way with 3 for 7 and there were two wickets apiece for Joe Bibby and Phil Curran as Town were bowled out for 104.

In reply Will Tabern (32) and Ian Fairweather (34 not out) ensured the total was reached without too much fuss.
