Just like buses! You wait for some time for a win to come along and then two come along at once.

Rainford kick-started their season in fine style with two excellent wins against Wigan in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition First Division on Saturday and then followed it up with a Ray Digman cup win at Orrell the next day.

Wigan were soon in trouble on Saturday with Trinidadian Daron Cruickshank claiming their first two wickets with 37 on the board.

Gareth Bradley (60) and Aaron Redmond (78) then led the fight back until skipper Andy Davies ( 3 for 57) removed Bradley and John Dotters (3 for 69) bagged the prized scalp of Kiwi Test star Redmond to halt the visitors progress and Wigan finished on a very competitive 239 all out.

Rainford suffered a similar fate at the start being reduced to 21 for 2 at which point Joe Noctor joined Graeme Green at the crease. The pair batted faultlessly to put on a stand of 137 before Joe Noctor was caught for 67.

Green departed soon after for 73 leaving Cruickshank the task of finishing the job. This he did in no uncertain style hitting 62 not out in 33 balls to give Rainford their first league win of the season.

Sunday saw a seven wicket win in the Ray Digman Cup at Orrell. The home side were dismissed for 191 with an excellent all round bowling and fielding display including three wickets for Joe Noctor and two apiece for Andy Davies and Daron Cruickshank.

The Rainford reply was totally controlled from start to finish by opener Matt Bailey, scoring his maiden League fifty and then crucially going on to see his side home with an excellent 85 not out. Assistance came from young James Seward (28) and the in-form Noctor (50) as Rainford now progress to the last eight.

The 2nd X1 remain second in their division after a comprehensive eight wicket win at Alder. Oliver Lawrenson took the bowling honours with 4 for 6 and skipper Andy Harrison backed him up with 4 for 27 as the hosts were bundled out for 95. Stuart Benzies (23), Mark Brook (37) and Will Tabern (25 not out) eased Rainford home.
