Colwyn Bay1st Rainhill 1st: Rainhill won the toss and had to elect to bat because of players caught in traffic on the A55.

The bowling green outfield and hard wicket didn’t initially help Rainhill and at 2 for 2 they were in trouble.

A resilient 25 from Brown steadied the ship against Shahabuddin (16 overs 1 for 29) and Holtby (2 for 42 from 14).

It was Jenkins’ left arm round that caused the damage. His 4 for 65 from 23overs ripped the heart out of the Rainhill mid order. Qureshi (71no) was joined by Dale (30) at 9 and their partnership allowed Rainhill to declare on 202 for 9 from 66.

Leaving ‘The Bay’ 47 overs in response their response started slowly. Qureshi bowled a tight line and went for less than 3 an over but Rainhill leaked runs from the other end.

Shahabuddin made Rainhill pay for dropping him twice. His 92 no steered the home side home with 2 balls to spare. Thanks Dys-Appear for sponsoring the ball.

Rainhill 2nd vs Burscough 2nd team: Rainhill inserted the visitors and at 66 for 5 this looked to be the right decision.

O’Toole (3 for 42 from 12) and Morris (1 for 24 from 7) turned the screws but a rally from Taylor (64), Houghton (48) and Hughes (28) allowed Burscough to declare on 215 for 7 in 48 overs.

Ian Morris led the response with a fine 36 but apart from him and Yate (61), no one else dented the scorebook.

Even Moss (3 from 34 from 14), Hughes (2 for 40) or Houghton (2 for 18) couldn’t get the last wicket.

The last pair held on for 26 balls to earn Rainhill the draw. Thanks to Archie Moore for sponsoring the ball.

Rainhill 3rd vs Highfield 3rd: Rainhill were inserted by the young team from Highfield.

Their oldest player being only 19 meant they were ‘keen’ in the field. Ashton (2 for 30 from 13) and Wallace (2 for 39 from 14) got the rewards for putting the ball in the right areas but it was Borrows (6 for 31 from 8) that did the damage.

Kelly (44) and Banergee (26) showed some resistance but Rainhill capitulated to 157 all out from 45 overs.

An opening stand of 132 by Welsby (87no) and Ashton (47) meant the visitors eased past their target in 36 overs, only losing 2 wickets in the process.

Parkfield Liscard vs Rainhill: After a delayed start Rainhill were inserted and because of the shortened game, had to attack from the start.

Brown (30), Edmundson (30), Lydon (27), Veacock (29) and Qureshi (42no) all pushed the score along against a tight line from Keogh (3 for 51 from 17). Rainhill declared on 190 for 6 in just 35 overs.

Giving Liscard 38 overs in response, they never looked interested in chasing the total. Apart from Keogh (19) and Lewis (18) the other forward defensives were lacking and they held on for a draw and finished on a poor 59 for 8.
