Wigan 1st Rainhill cc 1st: After the delayed start due to rain, the Wigan captain surprisingly elected to bat on the damp green top that would only aid bowlers.
Seamer Williams was rewarded for putting the ball in the right area’s and was initially backed up by the spin of Qureshi. None of Wigan’s batmen could match Redmonds 83 with eight of them only managing 16 runs between them. Williams could have had more if catches were held but his initial bursts of 14 overs 4 for 39 was surpassed by Qureshi mopping up the tail with 5 for 51 from 26. Wigan were all out for 138 in 52 overs.
Leaving Rainhill with a maximum of 28 overs meant they had to attack from ball 1.
Captain Rotheram led from the front with an unbeaten 83 and was supported with quick runs from the other batsmen who had all read the script. Despite Parry’s 3 from 48 from 10, Rainhill passed their target in 26 overs. Thanks toDys-appear from sponsoring the Rainhill ball. This win placing Rainhill 2nd in the league but early days.
