Rainhill cc 1st vs Northop Hall 1st:  Rainhill welcomed Northop Hall for their first league game of the season and were inserted by the visitors.

With a fast overseas bowling professional and Rainhill at 23 for 3, this decision seemed to be justified but a 137 run 4th wicket partnership between Brown (83no) and Lydon (61) allowed Rainhill to declare on 190 for 5 from 55 overs. Left arm spinner Nolan enjoyed the dusty conditions taking 3 for 46 from 16.

Nolan (47) and Kennedy (23) got Northop off to an excellent response and at 85 for 1 they were in control. Overseas spinner Qureshi then weaved his magic.

Backed up by the seam bowling of Dale (12 overs 1 for 26) Qureshi’s line and length was relentless. He ended with 7 for 42 from 21 overs. Rainhill weren’t able to get the last wicket and Northop held out for the draw finishing on 134 for 9. Thanks to Mike Rotheram for sponsoring the game.

Wigan 2nd vs Rainhill 2nd: Rainhill inserted Wigan and were slapped to all parts of the Bull Hey ground. Dawber (85), Ouwerkirk (82) Bailey (34) and Wood (31) all scored freely to get Wigan to 234 for 4 dec in 37 overs.

Shirley then ripped through the Rainhill batting with 7 for 34 from 12 and Rainhill could only muster 93 in 24 overs.

Rainhill 3rd vs Bootle 4th: Rainhill were inserted and declared on 196 for 4 in 52 overs. Kelly (69no) and Fitzhenry (59no) enjoyed the sunny conditions.

Although King (52no) and Brady (41) made inroads into the home team total, they never tried to accelerate and finished on 150 for 2 in 43 overs.

Alder vs Rainhill 45 over cup game:

In the last Ray Digman knockout game Rainhill elected to bat.With both teams short of usual bowling, Rainhill made 315 from their 45 overs. Higham (55), Dale (50no), Atkinson (42no) and Edmunson (45) made use of the quick outfield. In response, Aitchisons 122no wasn’t enough and Alder finished 38 short - on 277 for 4.
