Ste Lane impresses in winning NSAC belt

MMA fighter Ste Lane was crowned NSAC Lightweight champion after impressively stopping his opponent.

The Haydock man defeated reigning champion Dave Toole in the second round of their Controlled Aggression NSAC Lightweight showdown with a rear naked choke in Bacup on Saturday night.

Lane said: “The feeling of winning the belt was great. Knowing that the fight was for a title certainly makes that victory feel a little bit sweeter. To not only win the fight but stop a very tough opponent was a great achievement.”

Victory for the 22-year-old increases his unbeaten record to three fights but the sports therapy graduate who has been competing in mixed martial arts for nearly five years and holds his own MMA class on a Monday night at TMAS in Moss Bank isn’t getting carried away with his success.

He said: “I have recently graduated from university so I'm looking to pursue work within that field.

“I am constantly training and looking to compete more in MMA. I am just going to take each fight at a time and go from there.

“I am just happy to be training, competing and coaching something that I enjoy doing. Whether MMA as a career option transpires in the future I will just have to wait and see.”
