Martin Murray: It would be a dream to have a big fight at Langtree Park

ST HELENS’ world middleweight contender Martin Murray says he would love to stage a big fight at Saints’ new Langtree Park home.
But Murray, who drew with World champion Felix Sturm in December, says it would have to be a big one to do the surroundings justice.
Still unbeaten as a professional Murray is hoping to have his next bout, due in April, confirmed shortly and having out-grown venues in his home town was looking outside the borough.
Murray said: “I am gutted that there is no place in St Helens big enough - I would be every fight if there was, but unfortunately there isn’t. I just need a bigger arena now.”
Saints’ chairman has declared that Langtree Park could host concerts and boxing matches after a year, something that excites Murray no end.
“It has always been a massive ambition of mine to box at Saints. Even years ago before I turned pro – I dreamed of fighting at Knowsley Road.
“But I was in the new ground for Jon Wilkin’s testimonial launch event recently – and just looking around, to box there would be unbelievable. It is a cracking stadium.
“Eamonn did say he would give it a year for concerts and boxing and so that is positive news for me, it shows that something for future I would be made up “People in St Helens would turn up in force for that. So all I have to do is keep on working hard and could end up fighting there. And it would be a really cracking venue in the summer.
“A lot of people asking for it already but it would have to be a big fight like a world title to actually justify it.”
