A NEW boxing club opens its doors in Parr this weekend.

An open day for Wild Card ABC takes place at its base at the Derbyshire Hill Family Centre on Derbyshire Hill Road on Saturday.

Head coach Dominic Hodnett, who has helped set up the new venture, has invited some of the leading lights of the St Helens boxing scene to help launch the club.

Former British bantamweight champion Gary Davies and unbeaten middleweight and Prizefighter winner Martin Murray are expected to attend the opening at noon on Saturday.

The club will have a non-contact five to 11s section, an 11-17s junior section and will also cater for senior boxers.

The open day will give those thinking about joining and their parents to opportunity to look at the equipment before becoming members.

Meanwhile Martin Murray will be hoping to maintain his 100 per cent pro record at the expense of Ukrainian Sergei Khomitsky on a Ricky Hatton promotion at Robin Park Arena, Wigan on Friday. (tomorrow).

The 35-year-old Khomitsky has mixed it with some of the best in the division in Europe and is expected to provide testing opposition for Murray in their scheduled 8 x 3-minute round clash.
