MARTIN Murray is looking for a big performance tonight in Liverpool when he tackles Georgia’s George Beroshvili.

And after years of travelling to is also looking forward to making the most of some home comforts at the Echo Arena.

It is the Fingerpost's fighter's first outing since signing up with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom and his maiden appearance as a super middleweight.

But Murray is looking forward to it, and hoping to showcase his talents at the new division.

Murray said: "I have been travelling around the world for the past couple of years fighting. I have always wanted to fight at home, especially the Echo arena, I have got the chance to show the super middleweights on Friday what I am about.

"It is great signing with Matchroom, and I plan on having a big future at super middleweight so I am looking forward to getting in there and getting the job done. It is an exciting time for me."

The scheduled eight rounder is Murray's first bout since his brave defeat to middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.

Although that was a bruising encounter in Monte Carlo, the St Helens battler came out of it with his reputation enhanced.

And that is something he will be seeking to build on tonight in front of a larger than normal Barmy Army.

"To a certain extent I do feel pressure to put in a solid performance, coming off that last fight and stepping up to super middleweight.

"It is my first time on Sky for quite a few years so I am going to be under a bit of scrutiny really.

"People expect me to do big things and I know I can. I always raise my game for the better opponent.

"I don’t doubt the lad I am fighting is going to bring it, so you you will see the best of me.

"All my supporters can’t believe that they only have to travel for ten minutes to come watching me, they are used to queuing up for hours in airports, the fact that it is just down the road is just brilliant," Muuray said.

Murray's fight is second up after 7.30pm on a big night of Merseyside boxing.
