Brook run riot at Clock Face
7:43am Monday 3rd September 2012 in Amateur Rugby League
CLOCK FACE MINERS 0 – 42 BLACKBROOK Blackbrook proved to strong for Clock Face as they ran out easy winners in this local derby.
From the start it was Brook that put on the pressure and it soon paid off as just minutes into the game they went in for their first try when John Glover went through a gap in the Clock defence to score, with Lee Marsh converting.
It was Marsh who laid on Brooks next score when his high kick was missed by the Clock defence with the ball being picked up by Chris Springford to score under the posts.
After this initial scoring burst Clock started to respond and went close to scoring when a kick to the corner from Martin Hutton saw the ball knocked dead.
This was the start of a bright spell for Clock as they tried to put some points on the board but despite some great efforts from Peter Riley, Alan Johnson, and Matt Garner they could not break the Blackbrook defence.
Brook increased their lead just before the break when from a scrum the ball was quickly moved across the field with winger Scott Lyon finishing off in the corner with Marsh landing the touch line conversion.
Brook were quick off the mark after the break when another high ball from Marsh was regained by Brook with Neil Babbs going in for a try Marsh converting.
Another lost ball was by Clock lead to Brooks next try when it was quickly snapped up and moved across to Greg Hale for him to cross the line for his try with Marsh again in fine form adding on the conversion.
Clock continued to compete with Sam Long, Steve Taylor, and Peter Edwards all going close but once again as in the first half they could not break through the Brook defence.
Blackbrook finished off a the scoring with two late tries , the first from Danny Fairhurst when he supported a break from Tommy Cunningham, then Cunningham made another break but this time he went all the way to score himself with Springford this time adding on both conversions to give Brook a comfortable win and keep their championship hopes on track.
The Saints Taxis man of the match for Clock Face was Matt Garner, with Peter Bekker the Rosco Tyres players player.
