Clock Face Miners 32 Barrow Island 10

After last weeks narrow defeat Clock got back to winning ways with this hard fought win.

From the start it was the visitors who put the early pressure on but a grubber kick near the Clock line was stopped and picked up by Adam McGowan who then raced away on a length of the field run to score between the posts with Martin Hutton converting to give Clock an early lead.

Barrow responded quickly and reduced the deficit when the ball was lost in a tackle and from the scrum the ball went to Ashley Mowatt who despite being tackled managed to reach out and score.

Clock then extended their lead with two quick tries, some quick passing saw Sam Long hand onto Hutton for him to go over in the corner, then Hutton set up Chris Sheffield for him to go in under the posts giving Hutton an easy conversion.

Clock finished off the first half scoring when from a scrum the ball came to Mark Gibson who quickly handed onto Hutton who then sent Chris Kinsey in at the corner to give Clock Face a 20-4 lead.

The start of the second half was a more even affair with both side’s defences working hard so it wasn’t until midway through the half that the first points were registered when fullback Matt Jefferson broke through the Clock defence and from just over half way raced away to cross under the posts giving Matt Parkinson an easy conversion and to put them back in the game.

Clock finally put the game out of the visitors reach when forward Peter Bekker powered his way through the defence racing away before handing onto Peter Edwards to cross behind the posts, Hutton converting.

With just five minutes left to play it was a very determined Andy Burns who went over for the final try of the game when with three defenders trying to bring him down he still managed to get to the line and score with Hutton adding on the conversion.

The Saints Taxis man of the match for Clock Face was Matt Garner with Andy Burns the Roscoe Tyres players player.
