THATTO Heath amateur rugby league club are celebrating after being crowned the National Conference League champions.

They defeated Siddal 16-12 in the community game’s grand final at Widnes’s Halton Stadium this afternoon.

Thatto trailed 8-0 but pulled a try back to make it 8-6 at the break.

However, the Close Street based amateurs, who earned promotion from the conference league’s division one title in 2016, nudged ahead in the second half.

Their Halifax opponents drew level at 12-12 but the St Helens side, coached by Richard Owen, gained the lead once more - and roared on by their supporters - they absorbed pressure to take the final 16-12.

The victory sparked wild celebrations on the pitch and in the stands.

Well done messages have been pouring in from across social media.
