PILKINGTON Recs recorded a first win of the season when they saw off Egremont on Saturday.

After the disappointment of losing their opening game to Wigan St Patricks, Recs flew out of the traps and two tries from Danny Lynch either side of one from Jon Key gave them an 18-0 lead at the break.

Greg Smith got in on the act in the second half as Recs opened their account with a 22-0 victory.

With Recs’ regular pitch undergoing redevelopment work, the game was moved to a much heavier one and that meant any free-flowing rugby was stifled somewhat.

The hosts’ defence laid the platform and, after they had a Tom Roughley try ruled out, Ryan Hilliard spotted Lynch in space and produced the perfect kick for him to catch and dive over.

Recs were rolling now and Key crashed over for a rare try after Ryan Liptrot offloaded near the line, with Smith’s conversion making it 12-0.

With time running out in the half, Lynch grabbed his second after Hilliard set Andy Knapper free and he slipped the pass inside for the scrum-half to charge over.

The second half was a much quieter affair, with the only try coming when a superb passing move saw Smith dive over acrobatically on the left.

For the first time in the game, Smith failed to convert the try but Recs win was secure and they will go into this weekend’s home game with West Hull with renewed confidence.

Kick off is at 2.30pm.
