TRIES from brothers Andrew and Kyran Knapper helped amateurs Pilkington Recs defeat semi-professional London Skolars 13-0 in the Challenge Cup third round.

An absorbing tie played at Ruskin Drive was 0-0 at half time, with Recs having fluffed a clutch of chances to take the lead.

But Kyran Knapper's blistering turn of pace down the right flank broke the deadlock shortly after the break, while Greg Smith's touchline conversion added to the mood that an upset was on the cards.

Recs, coached by Bradford Bulls player Kurt Haggerty, were roared on by a large home crowd and the players' desire was evident in the aggressive defence that continually forced the visitors into errors.

A Greg Smith drop goal nudged Recs further ahead before prop Jamie Smith, a towering force for the home side in attack and defence, charged deep into the Skolars half. That run laid the platform for the ball to be spun to the left where centre Ian Stanley delivered an out of the back door offload that put Andrew Knapper over.

Smith's sublime conversion made it 13-0 to seal the win, leaving the Recs players to sing tongue-in-cheek 'We want Bradford' after the full time hooter as they look ahead to the fourth round draw and potential tie with coach Haggerty's employers.
