NEWTON Storm held on to edge out Waterhead Warriors 30-22 to win the under 15s Lancashire Cup Final at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes.

Storm had the better of the early chances but Waterhead defended well, forcing the ball carrier into touch before scoring through Keegan Brennan on the counter.

The next phase of play led to a well-worked try by Sean Halpin, which Mike Wynn converted to bring Newton level.

Forceful play by Storm led to another try, Eddie McLorie converting to give his side a 12-6 lead.

Tyler Jones then went on to give his side a healthy lead after a good passage of play and though Wynn missed the conversion attempt, he was able to add a penalty before the break.

After the break both teams managed to defend well, and the stalemate end to end period was broken when Tom Nesbit barged through the tackle to touchdown for 24-6.

Storm appeared to have the game in the bag but Waterhead dug deep, striking back through Jack Bradbury and Regan Garforth.

Waterhead got themselves back within two points at 24-22 after a converted try from Josh Whitehill, with momentum certainly on their side.

However Storm managed to close the game out after a break in the centres from Liam Lealy, goaled again by Wynn.

Warriors continued to apply the pressure in the final minutes but Storm’s defence held strong.
