BLACKBROOK suffered a golden-point knockout with a Richard Pogson penalty six minutes into extra-time giving Underbank Rangers a 20-18 promotion play-off win.
The visitors looked to be on course for a routine victory when wingers Jonathan Tinker and Courtney Allette crossed inside the opening 14 minutes for tries which hooker Pogson improved.
Winger Deon Cross and scrum-half Jordan Welsby replied for the hosts, however centre Alex Chatterton went over and Joel Croker added the extras to make it 18-8 to Underbank at the break.
Jordan Darwin improved Danny Fairhurst’s 45th minute effort to cut the gap to just four points, and there was no further score until three minutes from time when Cross levelled matters with his second try.
However, Pogson’s late strike meant it was Underbank who will be heading to Leigh East next week.
