RECS secured promotion to amateur rugby league's top flight for the first time since 1991 with a clinical opening quarter against their Wigan based opponents.

Their penchant for quick starts is becoming a feature of their play and this was no exception.

With only two minutes in the clock, Recs wing Andrew Nisbet dived over in the corner after good build up play by Greg Smith and Ian Stanley. Kyran Knapper converted.

Recs continued to build their momentum with a try from the resulting kick-off, with Greg Smith jinking his way past four defenders on his way to the line.

Knapper again converting.

A brace of quick-fire tries, firstly by Jamie Smith and then Knapper handed Recs a comfortable 22-point lead with less than 20 minutes played.

The visitors did have their own patches of attacking opportunities, however Recs defended their line with gusto, something that is sure to please coach Kurt Haggerty.

Nisbet scored his second of the afternoon after scooping up a loose ball to race the length of the field for a converted try.

Recs were quick to march upfield from the kick off and were over again when Ashton raced on to a John Rees pass before handing the ball over to Paul Leyland who scored his first try of the season. Knapper converted.

Just before half-time Ince finally broke the Recs line, scoring by the posts after catching Recs' inside defence napping.

The Wiganers started the second half with intent and with a game plan seemingly to offload at all costs paying dividends as they scored twice.

The Glassmen replied instantly with Knapper scoring his second of the afternoon finishing off slick handling to dive over in the corner.

Jono Peers was next on the score sheet for the hone side, powering over from close range before Ryan Liptrot could have been mistaken for wearing his dad's famous number 9 shirt as he scored a try straight out of the former Saint's playbook.

Knapper converted both.

The visitors had the final say of the afternoon, scoring wide on the right, however it was not enough to dampen the celebrations at final whistle.

The Amdec MOM was Jamie Smith.

Recs travel to Kells on Saturday in a winner takes all match for the divisional title.
