RECS fell to a Kells try in the last play of an enthralling encounter at Ruskin Drive.

Games between these two clubs in recent seasons have been tough affairs, and this was no different.

Danny Filson opened the scoring for the home side after just three minutes. Showing incredible speed and balance, racing down the left wing to score in the corner. Danny Lynch tagged on the extras.

The midfield battle was not for the weak hearted, and it was the visitors how made the best use of possession, scoring their opening try on the 10 minute mark, when a lofted pass to the left, made enough space for the winger to touch down in the corner.

The visitors continued to press down their own sideline and soon found the space to break away, with a stray inside pass being hoofed on to land perfectly for the chasing attacker to score.

This was followed by a try that Recs will be furious at conceding, when the Kells second row out muscled three defenders to pushover the line from close range for a converted try.

With Recs needing a quick response, it was vice-captain Greg Smith who provided the spark, stepping around three defenders from close range before twisting out of an attempted tackle to score besides the posts. Lynch's conversion made it 12-14 at half time.

Recs started the second half with greater urgency. And it was barely a minute old before Jamie Smith broke the line before providing the final pass to Greg Smith who scored beneath the posts leaving an easy conversion For Lynch.

Kells responded quickly with try of their own, creating space, this time on the right wing, for a levelling score in the corner.

The game was becoming a real spectacle, with neither team taking a backwards step, and as the clock was ticking down, both sides were trying all they could to break down the defence.

The visitors had the first opportunity to take the lead, but the ha like half-backs drop goal attempt fell way short. Next up was Greg Smith whose attempt for the home team went agonisingly close.

With a minute to play, Smith had a final attempt at a drop goal fall short and as the clock ticked down, the visitors took advantage of a miss-read in Recs defence to score a 50 metre try in the corner much to the dismay of the home side.

Recs now take a week off for Easter before they hope to get back to winning ways when they visit York Acorn

Jamie Smith was the Amdec MOM with Greg Smith taking the Bold Tyre Centre award.
