HAYDOCK lost their opening game league game of the season 26-14 at home to Ashton.
They started well when Daryl Rotherham weaved in and out to score a splendid opening try, which
Nathan Goodwin converted, but Ashton hit back to make it 6-4 at half time.
Haydock started the second half well and went close through Gary Anderton.
Ste Jones chip kicked, followed it up and gathered to score in the corner.
It became nip and tuck with Ashton grabbing two tries before Ste Jones went over for his second try to level the scores at 14-14 .
In the last 12 minutes Ashton took control of the game and wrapped it up with two tries.
ThePorterhouse Man of Match went to Daryl Rotherham and good displays from Connor Smith, Jordan Gibson and Gary Anderton.
