RECS made the long journey to unbeaten Kells in confident mood following the previous weeks performances, and that confidence was justifed when Recs built a commanding 4-18 lead.

Tries came from Richard Rafferty, who crashed over from close range,  Ryan Liptrot, who scored from the acting half position, and a wonderful length of the field try started by Greg Smith and scored by Ste Charlson after the ball was passed through six pairs of hands.

Danny Lynch converted all three.

With Recs looking the stronger team, they were pushing hard to take advantage of the strong wind and steep slope they had in their favour, however it was the Cumbrians who scored against the run of play, following slack defence to give a half time score of 8-18.

It took just two minutes of the restart for Kells to register the fi‎rst score of the half, and when they scored a converted try 10 minutes later the home side visibly lifted.

Recs continued to take it to the league leaders, however, the poor underfoot conditions sapped the energy out of the team and Kells took full advantage scoring three quick fire tries in a blistering five minute spell to open up a 16 point lead.

Recs were not going to lie down, and showed their desire to take the game to their opponents when another sweeping move saw Will Abbott score on the right‎, cutting the deficit to 12 points.

Kells finally put the game to bed with two minutes left to play when the Recs defence came to a standstill following what appeared to be a knock-on from the home side, only for the referee to wave play on to leave the winger with an easy try.

Recs did look to have the final say when Mike Garrity ploughed over in the corner, only for the referee to disallow the try without explanation, before calling full-time.

Greg Smith was the D Sparrow Plumbing and Heating MOM with John Rees taking the Rugby Speed Camps award Recs travel to Leigh East on Wednesday in a game brought forward from the 19 April.
