Thatto Heath Crusaders 34 Wigan St Pats 12
1:17pm Monday 15th October 2012 in Sport
Heath can thank their first half display for them coming home with the spoils at a soggy Crusader Park.
Pats took the lead picking up a loose ball to score, importantly, however, Heath responded straight away and emphatically.
Darren Woods intercepted 40 metres out to score, then combined with Dave Hull to win a decisive scrum on the next set.
Kieron Maddocks’ grubber was fielded by the winger but he was bundled into touch by the wing duo. From the scrum the ball was quickly sent to the right where Shaun Quinn committed the winger before sending Adam Walsh sliding over.
Heath struck the killer blows with two tries in a five minute spell on the half hour.
Another Maddocks grubber picked up by Hull, he dummied outside then took it to the full back before passing inside to the charging Danny Davies for the score.
On the next set Mick Ledger and James Clarke drove deep into Pats territory.
A quick play the ball gave Maddocks enough space and he dummied his way through for the try.
The second half started badly as the visitors scored to narrow the gap.
But Heath rallied and Walsh was denied a try when Matty Holding’s pass was adjudged to have been forward.
But it was the winger who got the decisive score with 10 minutes to go. A high ball on the last from Chris Frodsham was dropped by the fullback, picked up by Luke Bradshaw who put Walsh away.
It was left to Mark Beech to put the icing on the cake as he scored the sixth try with the last move of the game storming over the line from 20 metres out.
