Myton 26 Thatto Heath 22

A LAST gasp try allowed the Hull based Warriors to move a step closer to being crowned Minor Premiers.

Allan Dunham's match-winning try two minutes from time capped a fine display by both sides.

Myton however had to come from behind to snatch victory, after Heath had got their noses in front with two quick-fire tries just after half-time.

But the home side were able to capitalise on a defensive error as they fought to the final whistle against an admirable Thatto outfit that looked to have done enough to secure victory.

Thatto opened the scoring inside the opening exchanges when Shaun Quinn went over for his first of the game and then converted his own effort.

Myton struck back with Mark Spence getting the first of his brace. Ash James converted and added a penalty for a high tackle.

Aaron Fewless’ converted try gave Myton a 14-6 lead.

But the Crusaders hit back on the next set through Adam Walsh, to narrow the gap to two points going into half-time.

Thatto got out of the blocks quicker after the break, scoring two tries in five minutes.

Quinn got his second, before Keiron Maddox dummied over from close range.

Quinn landed one conversion to put his side 22-14 up, and Thatto bravely battled to hang on to their lead with some remarkable defensive resolve. But Myton clawed their way back when Walker combined again with Spence to go over.

James converted to set up a thrilling final 10 minutes.

The Warriors pinned Thatto in their own quarter, forcing three drop-outs from under the posts and Thatto were magnificent in their work rate as they fought hard to defend four sets on their own try-line.

But the winning try came with just a couple of minutes remaining when a fumbled ball enabled Myton’s rampaging Dunham to cross for the decisive score.

Thatto Heath are at home in their penultimate league fixture of the season on Saturday with a mouth-watering local derby against Wigan St Pat’s, 2pm.
