THATTO Heath walked away with the most prestigious prize of the evening at the 2012 Engage Community Awards at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Crusaders won the award for National Amateur Rugby League Club of the Year which was accepted on behalf of the club by vice chairman Dave Yates, secretary Martin Eden and young players Joseph Kilgannon and Joe Eden.

To make a great night even better Girl’s Section Coach and Coaching Mentor Geoff Alford won the award for National Children’s Coach of the Year.

Thatto were also awarded £1,000 for their volunteers efforts in Engage Mutual’s Engage with Your Club project as were Haydock.

Secretary Martin Eden said: “Five years ago we had nothing but hopes and dreams. We were the proverbial nomads of the game.

“Our teams were playing at venues all across the borough.

But look at us now, National and European Champions, owners of a £2 million facility and now Club of the Year.

“But most importantly we have only got here because of the efforts of our volunteers led by our Chairman Mike Denning and hopefully we will continue to grow as a club and bring more success to the Town.”
