Vulcan FC had mixed fortunes in their latest fixtures
10:56am Monday 10th September 2012 in Sport
The First Team travelled to Warrington to face Moore United Reserves in Division 2 of the Warrington & District FL and returned pointless after a 3-2 defeat.
Vulcan dominated the first 20 minutes but failed to turn chances into goals. Vulcan soon found themselves 3-1 down with Matty Hart scoring their goal.
Vulcan then found their form again and dominated the final 20 minutes of the game. Substitute Leigh Marsden gave Vulcan a lifeline with a goal on his return to the club but Vulcan couldn't find an equaliser.
Vulcan Reserves got their first win of the season with a 2-0 home win over Hallwood Carvery of Runcorn. The mix of youth and experience worked well and Vulcan dominated the game. A well taken first half goal from Darryl Case, on his debut for the team, goal from Ryan Tarbuck in the last minute gave Vulcan a well deserved victory. Goalkeeper, Dave Smith, deserves a mention as he pulled off numerous excellent saves to keep a clean sheet and earn the Man of the Match.
The young Vulcan players have adapted well to the transition to Open Age football and on this form will do well. The glorious weather brought out a crowd to Mesnes Park and they were treated to a fine display of football.
Both teams are in league action again next Saturday, 15th September.
The First Team have home advantage in the local derby against top of the table Newton Athletic in Division 2 while the Reserve Team travel to Widnes to take on Widnes Village FC in Division 5, both games are 3p.m. kick off.
