THE St Helens and District Football Combination started the season with an abundance of goals.

In total; 95 goals were scored on the opening day, the highlight was David Burns of Bowling Green netting five goals.

The Premier Division saw two games share 20 goals, Parr Cons Working Mens were duly dispatched by local rivals Newstreet to the tune of 2-8 while on the next pitch Diamonds beat local rivals Prescot Sun Inn by the same score 8-2.

Bold Rangers enjoyed a big win at home against Sutton Junction 6-1, York got off to winning ways by beating Champions Penlake 2-1 while St Helens Town Res pipped Knowsley South 2-1 Rainford North End and Clock Face enjoyed a point each with a 3-3 draw.

In the RG Trophies Division One; Bowling Green thumped Prescot Sun Res a 8-1, other high scoring games were Moss Bank and Old Congs, both shared the goals and points with a 4-4 draw while Carborundum were beaten by the odd goal in nine by Knowsley South Res.

Brown Edge lost 6-3 at home to Lions Grove.

New to the league are West Park who just held on to beat Sumner Street 2-1 at Bishop Road with other new boys Sutton Heath who were beaten by Mere 1-4.

In Division Two Penlake Res were pipped by Rockware 2-3 at home with Clock Face Res edged out Legion 2-0. Sutton Manor’s trip away proved fruitful with a 1-2 away win at Sidac Social 1-2 with Working Mens put seven past Sutton Reserves without reply.
