ST HELENS darter Dave Chisnall is in high spirits ahead of the World Matchplay, which starts in Blackpool this weekend.

The World Number thirteen is keen to continue his recent good form.

Since completing a Players Championship double in Crawley last May, Chizzy has asserted himself on the PDC Tour.

His UK Open Semi-Final appearance was soon followed by another Players Championship victory in Crawley before two successive European Tour Event finals, where he finished runner up both times.

However, the St Helens ace is focused ahead of his first round match against Ronnie Baxter on Tuesday night and is looking forward to the popular tournament.

Chizzy said: “The World Matchplay is a fantastic tournament, one which I really enjoy.

“The fans up in Blackpool are great; it’s brilliant to play in.

“I’m happy with my form at the moment but there are always things you can improve on, which I always look to do.”

Chizzy, the only player on the tour to wear yellow, lost out to fellow Target player Mark Walsh in the First Round last year and is adamant that this year’s tournament will be equally as challenging.

He said: “You’ve got the top sixteen in the World playing the top sixteen form players, so it’s an extremely tough tournament.

“I’m looking forward to playing Ronnie in the First Round; he’s a great player so I’m sure it will be a good game. It’s important to just take each game as it comes.”
