Bacup Borough 3 St Helens Town 2

A long trip to Bacup on Monday was to ultimately prove fruitless despite a good showing from the visitors.

The early stages of the contest were to prove Town’s undoing as they conceded twice through some sloppy defending.

The first goal saw Dale afforded too much space on the right and he cut inside before finding the net.

Bellamy’s made it 2-0 when he tried his luck from the edge of the box his effort taking a deflection and sending it past Brinksman into the Town net.

The visitors reduced the deficit when Hatton did well on the left before his centre found its way to Olsen at the far post and took a touch before finding the net.

Prior to the interval the visitors netted again when Olsen was on hand to send a corner home with his head.

The visitors took the game to their hosts in the second half but could not turn their domination in goals and as has happened quite often this season Town were caught when a home counter attack released Maine who fired home six yards to send Town home empty handed.

Town finish the season taking a trip to Silsden on Saturday (28 April) kick off 3pm before welcoming Ashton Athletic to Edge Green Street the following Monday (30 April) kick off 7.45pm.
