TWO girls from the Tashiken Karate Club, Newton, emerged from the recent the Amateur Martial Association National Championships with a medal each.
Danielle Sawyer and Lydia Coleman, both aged 13 and 1st Dan Black Belts, attended at the Ponds Forge Arena, Sheffield with Chief Instructor Chris Spurgeon.
Both girls did extremely well, with Danielle taking bronze in the Kumite (fighting) section, and Lydia taking silver in the Kumite section and bronze in the Kata (Forms) section. This qualifies both girls for selection to the AMA British National Squad, which takes place Sunday 9 August.
If they are both successful hopefully they will then go on to compete all over Europe representing their country, and both will be aspiring to be part of the 2012 Olympic games.
