RAINFORD finally got off the mark in the Liverpool Gin Liverpool Competition Premier Division with a hard fought win against Leigh. Batting first with contributions from Comrey Edgeworth (48) David Snellgrove (34) and 25 not out from Dan Houghton they compiled a competitive 190 for 9 declared.

Leigh were reduced to 75 for 5 before skipper Tom Foster and Andy Batterley (68) put them back in the game. The introduction of young Ehren Agarwal (5 for 28) then swung matters back in Ranford’s favour to effectively win the game for his club, claiming, with good catching support, the last five wickets as Leigh were all out for 164.

On Sunday the firsts enjoyed a nine wicket win over Orrell in the Ray Digman Cup. A tidy bowling and fielding display saw the visitors dismissed for 111 with John Dotters taking 3 for 11 and Comrey Edgeworth nudging himself towards all-rounder status, also with 3 for 11.

The total was reached with ease, for the loss of one wicket, with Matt Bailey batting through with 26 not out together with Edgeworth (28 not out) after Paul Farrar had opened up with 46.

Tom Dillon hit 78 for the seconds at Highfield as they made 155. It wasn’t enough as the home side went on to win by six wickets.
