St Helens Tri always look forward to the Southport Triathlon and the 2018 edition was as productive as ever.

Peter Fairclough led the club home in the sprint distance finishing 10th overall, while Emma Austin’s outstanding season continued with victory in the junior category and Myka Heard and Jennifer Pybis placed second in their respective divisions. In the standard distance race Mark Turner took the third slot for the world championships in Australia while Terry Bates was second in his division and first eligible qualifier.

Away from the coast it was a successful weekend for Sarah Taktak and Robert Chesters, as Sarah’s rise to prominence continued as she placed second junior lady at the Slateman Triathlon in Llanberis while Robert pulled off a late comeback to win the M30-34 category at the Cheshire Triathlon by 28 seconds.

It was also a busy weekend of running with Dean Golba starring at the Manchester Half Marathon where he finished 161st in an excellent time of 1:33:39 while Lee Stinch placed in the top 25 at the Worcester Marathon.
