SAINTS’ young scrum half Danny Richardson continued to show the classy parts to his game in Saturday’s Challenge Cup win at Castleford.

The 21-year-old Widnesian, who will be making his Magic debut against his hometown team on Saturday has really taken ownership of the number seven jersey this season.

He capped another fine game on Saturday with a cheeky try that could have been taken from the Sean Long play book.

Coach Justin Holbrook is delighted with Richardson’s progression.

Holbrook said: “Danny had a great game.

“He has been getting better every week.

“He works on hard on his game and is a good young player to coach.

“I have pointed things out and the very next week he has fixed them up.

“He is playing really well for us."

Richardson was still vying with the experienced Matty Smith for the seven jersey at the start of this campaign, but after getting first crack at it he has taken it with both hands.

The coaching staff and senior players have all done their bit in guiding the England Knights half back.

Holbrook added: “Everyone is involved in developing him – I give him some pointers, Longy helps him out, Jamahl Lolesi helps him with defence and with Matty Smith, being the senior player, is always around.

“The combination of all of us contribute, but he is a really good young player that works well.

“I have been conscious too, not to give him too much to think about, but anything we say he does.”
