SAINTS boss Justin Holbrook goes back to where it all began when he takes his troops to St James’s Park, Newcastle on Saturday (3pm).

This time last year was Holbrook’s first public outing as Saints coach and he saw his team smash Hull FC 45-0 in a match that saw a turnaround in fortunes.

Saints are in a different boat at the moment, top of the pile and bouncing in from a good cup win.

But they will not be taking underdogs Widnes Vikings lightly.

Holbrook has good feelings about that match and the Magic concept.

He said: “It was my first game and I loved it.

“The result helped as well, but I loved being part of that occasion.

“It is a fantastic event – to have all teams there at one venue; a weekend away and be able to watch other teams.

“It holds a special place for me after last year and I look forward to it again on Saturday.”

Saints will have to make one change with Kyle Amor banned for a game with Matty Lees coming straight back in after serving his two-game ban from Salford.

Holbrook was focusing on his own side, rather than thinking too much about what Widnes present.

“Widnes are a very competitive side, but they have just been going down of late and not getting the wins,” he said.

“They will be a dangerous side, one we have to pay attention to.

“But like all the other weeks, we just have to make sure we get our our own game in order and go the and look forward to the match.

“It will be good to go to Newcastle and put in another good performance for ourselves, the fans and the club.

“That is the motivation for us – the standards we are setting and want to maintain on an occasion like this.”

Amor will miss after being deemed to have made dangerous contact on Oliver Holmes in the eight minute of the cup tie.

The incident was unpunished by the referee.
