RAINFORD'S first X1 continue to find things tough in the Liverpool Gin Liverpool Competition Premier Division going down by five wickets at Formby, who now go top by one point from Northern.

Batting first, Comrey Edgeworth made 51 and skipper David Snellgrove scored 39 in a disappointing total of 135. The Cricket Path outfit reached their total with five wickets in hand with Stephen Birkett the pick of the Rainford attack with 3 for 20.

Meanwhile the 2nd X1 recorded their second win with a 24 run victory at home to Old Xaverians.

Skipper Mark Brook led the way with a brisk 40, before the total was boosted late on with 33 from Tom Dillon and 23 from Andrew Harrison to reach 152 all out.

Old Xavs made steady progress but were halted by a spell of 5 for 16 from Ben Hemingway, backed up with Mark Farrar’s 3 for 25 which saw Rainford to the win.

Friday night saw the 1st X1 progress to the second round of the ECB T2O Competition with a 63 run win over Burscough.
