THE week began with the hint of warmer weather, but as the weekend came round the snow rolled in, but that didn’t stop a number of St. Helens Sutton A.C. athletes take to the country road and track.

Saturday saw Joseph Byrne head to Leeds’ Temple Newsam Park, to take on the mud and snow to compete in his first English School Cross Country Championships representing Merseyside were he finished 318th in 17:04.

While over in Blackpool a number of athletes braved the cold weather for the first outdoor track season of the year, in the Winter Warm Up Open.

Charlie Roberts opened up his 800m track season as he debut in the U17 age group with a win in 2:11.8. Lauren Taylor took part in both the U15 Long Jump and Shot Put jumping and throwing 3.84m and 6.65m respectively.

And Ian Conway competed in the Senior Men’s Shot Put and Hammer throw with 9.11m and 19.93m.

Sunday sadly saw the Wigan Half Marathon cancelled due to the bad weather, but the Wigan 5k still went ahead, Tom Griffiths had a fantastic run clocking a season's best with 16:03 in second place, while Amy Corfield took the Bronze medal in the Women’s race with 20:03.
