ANDY McKenna starred for Newton RU on Saturday as they completed the double over a travelling Prenton side.
Without a win since November 11, Newton triumphed 29-5 in this South Lancs and Cheshire Division Three (South) clash.
Newton’s familiar style of quick recycling earned them their first try through Dave Turner as they rushed to an 8-0 lead inside 20 minutes.
But the home side didn’t have it all their own way, Prenton crossing for a try of their own on the half hour mark.
Newton’s domination was not reflected in the 8-5 half-time score line.
However, Newton’s dominance continued into the second half, Andy McKenna converting his own try.
His kicking boots were soon called upon again to convert a Sean Storey try that secured Newton the win.
A late revival from Prenton came to no effect as Newton's defence held strong.
Attentions now turn to the forthcoming weeks as Newton face a struggling Wallasey in back-to-back fixtures.
With plenty of points still available, a double over bottom-of-the-league Wallasey could spark a play-off push for Newton.
Confidence will be high as they cross the Mersey this Saturday.
