SAINTS have a glorious chance to move within a point of the top four in the final match of the regular Super League season – but they will have to shake off their away day blues to do so.

It is more than a year since Saints last won a game in Yorkshire - a 34-18 win over Huddersfield in July 2016 - and that is something that will have to change if they are to make any impression in the Super 8s.

Sunday’s game at Belle Vue is a four-pointer in every sense of the word; a win would see Saints perched ominously on the shoulders of Hull, Wakefield and Salford, defeat would cast them five points adrift.

Saints boss Justin Holbrook knows what a tough nut the competition’s surprise package present, but sees the clash as a real opportunity.

Holbrook said: “It is going to be a tough one for us on Sunday.

“Wakefield are a well-balanced team. They have a big pack of forwards, very fast wingers and two strong centres.

“They are going to be a handful on Sunday.

“But I am happy with the way we are going so it is going to be a cracking game.”

One of the key aspects of the way Chris Chester has his team playing is the offload game of big men Craig Huby, ex-Saint Adam Walker and particularly impact man David Fifita.

They commit players and expose spaces for their speedsters Ben Jones-Bishop Mason Caton-Brown to exploit on the large pitch.

Centre Bill Tupou is also on-song and he destroyed Widnes last week.

“They have some big awkward bodies in that forward pack who do like to offload.

“And when you have speedy men on the end of that we need to be strong in that area,” Holbrook said.

After stringing together two good home wins, the Saints boss was looking forward to this key match.

“It is not a game we are going into feeling pressure about, we are going in to it looking forward to the opportunity it gives us.

“If we perform on Sunday we move one point off Wakefield going into the Super 8s, but they will be saying the exact same thing in terms of pulling clear.

“It is all pointing to a real good game on Sunday and I am looking forward to our boys playing well,” he said.

Saints are again expected to be without ex-Trinity prop Kyle Amor who pulled a hamstring in training.

The game kicks off at 3pm.

Saints lost the home fixture against Trinity in March, 16-12, falling to late Jacob Miller penalty try in a game played in awful conditions.
