FINGERPOST fighter Olivia Hussey has taken the European title in the 69kg category.

Hussey, formerly of Wildcard ABC but now based at Hook&Jab, was the first of the England boxers to get on the medal table with the gold.

She started her winning form against a tough Irish champion, digging deep exchanging a multitude of superb combinations.

Hussey kept switching throughout the bout, displaying class and sheer heart, gaining the win and the first medal for England over her experienced opponent.

Once again she had a tough bout ahead of her in the semi final contest against a tough tall south paw Russian champion.

Hussey had to dig deep busy with her combinations going twice doubling her attack, resulting in the Russian receiving an eight count in the third round, this securing Hussey the win and the first England boxer through to the European final.

The final and the atmosphere was electric, Olivia was up against a very tall Polish boxer who stood face to face looked a weight above.

Both exchanged powerful combinations, although Hussey was the most accurate finding her range and catching her opponent with a devastating back hand resulting in an eight count and a round up.

The contest continued to be full of gripping moments exchanges of blows both ladies fighting their hearts out hungry for the win, gripped on the result.

All of Hussey's hard work paid off, displaying the heart of a lion, she dug so deep finding that last push taking her to a well deserved win and a first youth Gold medal in a vast number of years.

There has only ever being one other girl from England to win a gold, so this is a huge achievement for the St Helens boxer.
