SAINTS scrum half Matty Smith will undergo a second operation today on the eyelid damaged at Leeds on Thursday.
Smith underwent surgery on the wound the day after the game - but has needed a follow up op.
At this stage it is too early to assess how long he will be out of the team, but in his absence Justin Holbrook said he will give youngster Danny Richardson to seven shirt.
Holbrook said: "Unfortunately it is not great with Matty. He needed surgery on Friday on account of his eyelid being very badly damaged.
"We were hoping that would be it but he's had to go in today for a second lot of surgery. Fingers crossed he will be fine.
"As for when he will return to play is just too early to tell.
"It is a funny game rugby league. One minute you're the hero and then next you are off after five minutes with a serious injury "It was just one of those unfortunate accidents."
