ST HELENS Sutton A.C’s juniors, although depleted in numbers, were out in full spirit at the third match in the YDL upper league match held at Warrington on Sunday.

Though only 12 athletes fielded the team for Sutton, those courageous few recorded personal bests and strong performances to secure a 4th place in the match.

For the U17 women Rebecca Brown ran the 100m in 14.0 PB, threw the discus 19.40m and achieved a second PB in the shot putt with 8.93m.

Cody Rigby ran the 100m in 14.6, the 200m in 30.4 and threw 4.63m in the shot putt.

Jess Leonard was the only under 20 woman competing in five events, she ran the 100m in 13.3, the 200m in 27.7 and the 400m in 62.4, she then threw 8.98m in the shot putt and 14.27m in the discus.

For the U17 men Daniel Dobson jumped a PB in the long jump with 5.15m, Nathan Harrison ran his first 400m in 62.9 and cleared 1.35m in the high jump, Michael Farr ran 11.7 PB in the 100m and 24.1 in the 200m. Peter Davies ran the 200m in 25.5, the 400m in 58.9 PB and achieved another PB in the shot putt with 8.62m.

Patrick Neafcey ran the 100m in 14.3 then threw the discus 13.47m and the shot putt 5.14m, and Steven Mayston ran the 1500m in 5:29.6 PB then knocked 14 seconds off his personal best time in the 800m with 2:34.3. and finished off with discus 10.62m.

The U20 men were Lochlainn Fisher who ran the 400m in 52.9, long jumped 4.66m and threw the discus 14.82m, Daniel Lamb ran the 100m in 11.1, the 200 in 23.2 and jumped 6.26m in the long jump. Jonathan Causer ran the 200m in 24.2, the 400m in 54.4, then threw the shot putt 10.84m and the discus 22.52m.

In the final events of the day the U17 men’s team of Davies, Harrison, Dobson and Farr ran the 4x400m relay finishing third in 4:17.0, while the U20 team of Causer, Fisher, Lamb and Farr (who moved up an age group) ran won the 4x100m in 48.00.
