SAINTS have had a mixed record in the previous 10 Magic events, winning four, losing five and drawing one.

They started off well enough with Paul Wellens scoring four tries in the 34-18 victory over Wigan at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff in front of 32,384.

The following year Sean Long grabbed three tries in the 57-16 victory over the Warriors – with 32,516 watching in Cardiff.

The Magic weekend moved north to Murrayfield in 2009, with the change of venue bringing Saints’ first defeat – Wigan triumphing 38-18 in front of 29,627 spectators.

A drawn format saw Saints paired with Hull KR in 2010, again in the Scottish capital, with Mick Potter’s side winning 54-0 before a 25,401 gate.

Magic kicked off the 2011 season at Cardiff and Royce Simmons' Saints came from behind to draw 16-all against Wigan, with Kyle Eastmond missing a late drop goal with 30,891 watching.

Magic moved to Manchester’s Etihad for the next three years but it was a miserable venue for Saints with three 40-plus point drubbings.

In 2012 Wigan had Gareth Hock and Chris Tuson sent off, joined by Saints’ Sean Magennis, but the Warriors triumphed 42-16 before a 32,923 gate.

Warrington beat Nathan Brown's Saints 48-22 in 2013 and followed that up the next season with a similarly emphatic 41-24 success.

Magic moved further north the Newcastle in 2015 and a super flying Tommy Makinson tackle helped Saints keep a 20-16 lead against Warrington.

But last year at St James’ Park a 28,945 gate saw Saints produce a dismal display in losing to Huddersfield Giants 48-20.
