A LUKE Leyden hat-trick helped Clock Face Miners to an emphatic 58-1 home win over Elland in their new NCL campaign on Saturday.

Man of the match Shaun Pritchard started things off when he squeezed over within inches of space out wide on seven minutes.

It wasn’t until the 26 minute mark when Paul Hunt went over in an almost copybook play as the first try which he duly converted. Seven minutes later and Paul Hunt was in again, following a great break by Carl Lucas.

It was Andy Stanton who finished the first half scoring as he ghosted through the defence as he scooted from acting half back with Shaun Costello converting. Half time score 18-0.

Shortly after restart, Luke Leyden went over for his first after a great break by Karle Hunt.

Just four minutes later Connor Cutts broke free on the half way line and passed to Lewis Geraghty who went in under the posts.

Costello kicked the easy conversion.

For a spell Elland put Clock under some pressure until Leyden intercepted 10m from the Clock line and went the length of the field to score under the sticks with Costello kicking the conversion.

From then on the floodgates opened with Clock posting further tries by Pritchard, Karle Hunt, Lucas, Liam Crehan and the hat-trick try for Leyden.

Elland saved their blushes with an injury time drop goal.
